Visa and immigration document upload limits by portal

Immigration portals limit the size and type of each file. The table lists what each official page says and whether we read the full page or only an excerpt of it. Where a portal does not publish a size limit, we say so and do not repeat unofficial numbers as fact.

Limits change without notice and can differ by account type. Confirm the figure on the upload screen of your own application.
If your file is too large
- Photos: use Compress image to target size and aim about 10% under the limit.
- Scans: scan at a lower resolution. IRCC suggests 96 to 150 DPI for its uploads.
- Several pages: combine them with Merge PDF if the form has a single upload field.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the USCIS file size limit?
- The USCIS online filing tips page says files must not be larger than 12 MB, in PDF, JPG or JPEG (TIF/TIFF for some forms).
- What is the IRCC upload limit?
- It depends on the account: 4 MB per file for several accounts and 5 MB for the IRCC Portal, according to the IRCC help centre.
- Does UKVI have a maximum file size?
- The GOV.UK guidance page does not state one. Check the size shown in your own application.
