Edit a PDF

Add text, pictures, shapes, highlights, drawings, links and signatures to a PDF, and fill in its form fields, in a full document editor.

How it works

  1. Add your PDF. It opens as a full document with a toolbar.
  2. Pick a tool, then click or drag on the page. Drag things to move them and use the corner squares to resize.
  3. Change colours, fonts and sizes in the panel on the right. Undo with Ctrl+Z.
  4. Press Finish and download.

What you can add

  • Text in three fonts, any size and colour, bold and italic, wrapped inside a box you can resize.
  • Pictures (PNG or JPEG), and your signature: drawn, typed or uploaded.
  • Shapes: boxes, ovals, lines and arrows, with outline, fill and transparency.
  • Mark-up: a highlighter that leaves the words readable, freehand drawing, and ticks and crosses.
  • Links to a web address, an email address, a phone number or another page.
  • Whiteout to cover part of a page with white, and today's date in one click.
  • The PDF's own form fields, if it has any. See fill a PDF form.

What this editor cannot do

Everything you add sits on top of the page. The text and pictures that are already in the PDF cannot be changed or removed, because a PDF stores them as positioned marks, not as paragraphs you can retype.

  • To correct a typo, cover the word with Whiteout and type the right word over it.
  • Whiteout hides what is underneath but does not delete it. The covered words are still in the file, so do not use it to hide private information.
  • Typed text uses Latin letters. For other alphabets, add a picture of the text.
  • Scanned pages are pictures, and there is no text recognition (OCR) yet.

Good to know

  • Everything you add sits on top of the page. The text and pictures already in the PDF cannot be edited or removed.
  • Whiteout covers what is underneath with white; the covered content is still in the file, so it is not redaction.
  • Typed text uses Latin letters in three standard fonts. Use a picture for other alphabets.
  • Password-protected PDFs are refused, and forms built on XFA (an older Adobe format) cannot be filled in.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to edit a PDF here?
Yes. There is no account, watermark or limit on how many PDFs you edit.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The document opens and is edited in your browser, and the result is made there too.
Can I change the text that is already in the PDF?
No. You can add text on top of the page, and cover old text with Whiteout, but the existing text itself cannot be edited.
Is whiteout the same as redaction?
No. Whiteout is a white box on top of the page. The words underneath are still in the file. Real redaction removes them, and this tool does not do that.
Can I undo a mistake?
Yes. Undo and redo are in the top bar, on Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z, and keep your last hundred steps.
Can I edit on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Tap a tool, then tap or drag on the page. A bigger screen is easier for long documents.
Can I fill in a PDF form?
Yes. If the PDF has fill-in fields, they show as blue boxes on the page. See also Fill PDF form.
