How big is 100 KB?

100 KB is 100,000 bytes if a kilobyte means 1,000 bytes, and 102,400 bytes if it means 1,024. Upload forms rarely say which they use, so aim a little under the limit rather than exactly on it. The KB and MB guide explains the difference.

What 100 KB does and does not guarantee

• The target is a maximum, not a quality guarantee. The tool keeps the pixel dimensions and lowers the JPEG or WebP quality until the file fits, so a small target on a large photo gives a visibly softer image.
• Some forms also set a minimum number of pixels. Compression alone will not change the dimensions, and shrinking the pixels to reach 100 KB can break that minimum. Check both numbers on your form.
• The result panel shows the exact byte count and the target in bytes. If the target could not be reached, it says so and you should not upload that file.

Supported formats

The compressor accepts JPEG and WebP. A WebP stays WebP, so convert it to JPEG first if your form asks for JPEG. A PNG cannot be compressed directly: convert it to JPEG first, remembering that JPEG cannot store transparency. To shrink a PDF, use Compress PDF.

Getting under the limit

1. Crop away anything you do not need. Fewer pixels means a smaller file.
2. If the image is much larger than the form needs, resize it first with the resize tool.
3. Set the target here. If the tool says it cannot reach the target at the current dimensions, reduce the dimensions and try again.
4. PNG files must be converted to JPEG first, because the compressor accepts JPEG and WebP.
