Sign a PDF
Draw, type or upload your signature, place it on any page and download the signed PDF.
How it works
- Add your PDF.
- Make your signature: draw it, type your name, or upload a picture.
- Drag the signature to the right spot, on any page, and resize it with the corner square.
- Press Sign PDF and download the result.
What kind of signature this is
This tool puts a picture of your signature on the page, the same as signing a printout and scanning it. It is a visual signature. Nothing is cryptographically signed, the PDF is not locked afterwards, and there is no signing certificate.
- Most forms, landlords, schools and employers accept a signature placed like this.
- Some documents need a certificate-based digital signature, a witness, or a handwritten original. Use what the person asking for the signature specifies.
- Rules about electronic signatures differ by country and by document. This page is not legal advice. See visual vs digital signatures.
Three ways to make your signature
- Draw it with a mouse, a finger or a stylus. On a phone this is the closest thing to signing on paper.
- Type your name and pick a handwriting style. Typed names use Latin letters.
- Upload a photo or scan of your real signature on white paper. The tool can make the white background transparent, so the signature sits cleanly on the page.
Date, text and multiple pages
Add today's date or any line of text next to your signature, and place your signature on more than one page, for example an initial on each page of a contract. Every box can be moved and resized, and all of it is drawn onto the PDF when you press Sign PDF.
The tool does not change the text that is already in the document, and it does not fill in interactive form fields. To mark up a PDF with notes and highlights, use Annotate PDF.
Good to know
- This adds a picture of a signature to the page. It is a visual signature, not a certificate-based digital signature: nothing is cryptographically signed and the PDF is not locked afterwards.
- Password-protected PDFs are refused.
- Typed names and dates use Latin letters; draw or upload a signature for other alphabets.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it free to sign a PDF here?
- Yes. There is no account, watermark or limit on the number of documents.
- Is my document uploaded when I sign it?
- No. The page, your signature and the signed file all stay in your browser.
- Is this a legally valid signature?
- It is a visual signature, a picture of your signature on the page. Whether it is accepted depends on the country, the type of document and who asks for it, and this is not legal advice. For anything that needs a digital certificate or a handwritten original, follow the instructions you were given.
- Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
- Yes. Draw your signature with your finger, drag it into place and download the PDF. It works in the browser on iPhone, iPad and Android.
- Can I put my signature on several pages?
- Yes. Go to each page and press Put my signature on this page, then drag it into position.
- Can I sign a password-protected PDF?
- Not directly. Remove the password in the program that made the file, then sign it here.
- Can I fill in the form fields in my PDF?
- Not yet. You can type a line of text anywhere on a page, but interactive form fields are not filled in.
