  • The full document must be visible on the scan or photo.
  • Keep the document flat on the scanner, well lit and in focus if photographing it, with nothing covering the details.
  • Some third-party pages quote 6 MB per file for UKVCAS uploads. We could not confirm that on an official page, so check the size shown in your own application.

Tips

  • For the online passport application, do not crop the photo tightly yourself: GOV.UK says its service crops it for you.
  • The digital photo must be at least 600 × 750 pixels and between 50 KB and 10 MB.
  • A printed UK passport photo is 35 × 45 mm and must be taken within the last month.
