How to sign a PDF without printing it (on a computer or phone)
Updated 2026-09-30
- Open Sign PDF and add your PDF.
- Make your signature: draw it, type your name, or upload a photo of your signature on white paper.
- Drag the signature to the signature line. Use the corner square to make it bigger or smaller.
- Press Sign PDF, download the file and open it once to check the signature is where you want it.
On a phone or tablet
The same steps work in the browser on iPhone, iPad and Android. Draw your signature with your finger, then drag the box with one finger. If the page is small, turn the phone sideways.
Making a neat signature
- Draw slowly and use the whole box; the tool trims the empty space for you.
- To use your real signature, sign in dark ink on plain white paper, photograph it in daylight and crop close. Leave "Make the white background transparent" ticked.
- Add the date with one button, so it sits beside your signature in the same size.
Before you send it
- Check what kind of signature is asked for: a picture of your signature is a visual signature, not a certificate-based digital signature. See visual vs digital signatures.
- If the file is too large to email, bring it down with Compress PDF.
- To sign a document that is several files, join them first with Merge PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to print and scan the document?
- No. Add the PDF, place your signature on the page and download the signed file.
- Is my document uploaded?
- No. The tool runs in your browser, so the document and your signature stay on your device.
- Will the person receiving it accept the signature?
- Most do, but it depends on them and on the type of document. Ask if you are unsure.
