How to fill in a PDF form online (without printing or Adobe)
Updated 2026-09-30
- Open Fill PDF form and add the form. Its fields show as blue boxes.
- Click a box and type, tick a tick box, or choose from a list.
- Tick "Lock the filled-in fields" if the answers should not be changeable. Do this last.
- Press Finish and download, and open the file once to check the answers.
When nothing is clickable
A form that was scanned, or exported as a picture, has no fields. The tool says so. Use Edit PDF instead: the Text tool types anywhere, the Tick tool adds tick marks, and the Sign tool adds your signature.
Before you send it
- Check every page, including tick boxes and drop-downs.
- Add your signature if it asks for one: how to sign a PDF.
- If the file is too large to send, shrink it with Compress PDF.
Frequently asked questions
- Why can't I type in my PDF?
- It probably has no fill-in fields. Use the Text tool in Edit PDF to type anywhere on the page.
- Is my form uploaded?
- No. Your answers stay in your browser.
- What does locking the fields do?
- It makes your answers part of the page, so nobody can change them in a PDF reader afterwards. A locked form cannot be filled in again.
