How it works

How the sheet is laid out

Sheets: 4 × 6 in, 10 × 15 cm, 5 × 7 in, A4 and US Letter, built at 300 DPI. The PDF page is exactly the sheet size.
Photos are placed in a grid from the top left with the gap and margin you set, and the block is centred. Photos are never rotated, stretched or overlapped. If a photo does not fit, the tool says so instead of shrinking it.
Automatic orientation picks portrait or landscape, whichever holds more photos.
Example: a 35 × 45 mm photo with a 2 mm gap and 3 mm margin gives 8 photos (4 × 2) on a 4 × 6 in sheet in landscape. A 2 × 2 in photo gives 6 with no gap or margin, but only 2 once a 3 mm margin is kept, because many home printers cannot print to the paper edge.

Printing it at the right size

Print the PDF at 100% or "actual size" with page scaling off. "Fit to page" and "shrink to fit" change the photo size.
Measure one printed photo against the size the authority states before you use the sheet. Printers and print dialogs differ, and we have not tested yours.
Some authorities ask for professionally printed photos, and each decides for itself whether a photo you print at home is accepted. When you pick a preset, the tool shows the print requirements from that authority's own page.

This tool lays out photos on a sheet. It does not check head size, background or expression, and it is not a government acceptance decision. Some authorities require professionally printed photos; check the issuing authority.

Frequently asked questions

Will my printed sheet be accepted?: Only the issuing authority decides. This tool arranges your photo on a sheet. It does not check head size, background or expression, and some authorities require professionally printed photos.
Which file should I print, the PDF or the JPEG?: The PDF. Its page is exactly the sheet size, so printing at 100% keeps the photos at their stated size. The JPEG carries a 300 DPI tag, which not every program reads.
Why are there fewer photos than I expected?: The gap and margin take space. Reduce them, or choose a larger sheet. The tool shows how many fit before you create the sheet.
Is my photo uploaded?: No. The sheet is built in your browser.
